"Educating and Raising Awareness in the Field of Education on LGBT+ Topics to Create a Safe and Inclusive School Environment for the LGBT+ Youth"
According to the results of the school climate survey conducted in 2018, many LGBT+ students feel unsafe at school because they experience hostility, because LGBT+ topics are not discussed in class or are discussed negatively, and because fellow students and school staff do not draw attention to the issues.
The aim of the project is to create a safe and inclusive school environment for the LGBT+ youth in Estonia. In order to achieve this, we will be working with young people as well as specialists, institutions, and organizations working in the field of education, and communicating with the general audience.
The activities of this project are based on the previously conducted school climate survey (summary in English; in full in Estonian and in Russian) and on the discussions held at the education conference "The Price of Education: The Wellbeing of LGBT+ Youth" in the fall of 2019. During the project, we will create study materials and workshops, organize seminars, work with the network of organizations, and carry out an awareness-raising campaign.
The project is funded by the Active Citizens Fund (ACF). The ACF Fund operator in Estonia is the Open Estonia Foundation in cooperation with the Network of Estonian Nonprofit Organizations.
Working together for a green, competitive and inclusive Europe!
